ParticipantJD You got it right again. This forum is working great. I just hope it stays like this so we all can communicate and get things done. One more thing Dan try and get some more Directors to get on and things should work like they should members talking to Directors and getting things done.

ParticipantI talked to a couple today but they haven’t been logged in yet. I know Jim is out of state when I spoke with him today.
This is nice to have a open line of communication.February 11, 2016 at 6:51 am #994Ken Cerney
ParticipantDenny is aware of the talk on date change as I spoke with him yesterday afternoon. I think he is open to a change if this is what the members would like. He did mention Gateway shoot. I still think it would be the right move to put the shoot on Sept. 16-17-18 and leave it in the time frame for next year (Sept 15-16-17 2017).

ParticipantNow maybe you guys can see what it is like to set dates for a shoot. Ken said the WTA said it wouldn’t but with anyone. Well that is not true. First that would almost be impossible to do in May, June and July. Someone brought up the 50 mile rule. Well first off that doesn’t exist any more. Second who would be in the fifty miles on the dates suggested?
As for Gateway that really shouldn’t be a issue anymore due to the fact that the shoot is getting smaller and smaller. It was discussed. I actually thought that they did settle on that weekend at the meeting. I was there I think. The fact that it is not a reg. shoot shouldn’t matter due to the fact that the WTA needs to look at all types of shooting and help promote it too.
You had better settle on a weekend and keep it that way. If you do something this year and then change it again next year you will start loosing people. You need to start getting some consistency when it comes to dates so people can start setting up their calendars each year.
My feelings is Sept is better than Oct. People start slowing down after the Grand so the closer to it the better. Plus the likelihood of getting better weather is better. Not that Oct is bad because you can get some perfect weather the first week of Oct too.

ParticipantDon, I do know what it is like to schedule shoots. We used to get together with all the surrounding clubs, Deerfield, Beaver Dam, Bristol, Stoughton, Jefferson, Waterloo, Clyman and try to work around everyone’s dates so you could capitalize on the shooters. Once you split the croud up nobody wins as the shooter numbers just are not what they used to be. This also the reason we started the Quad County Chain shoots.
As far as the 50 mile rule I know it doesn’t exist anymore but it should. Maybe it should be 75 miles. Or maybe the WTA could have a scheduling meeting for the clubs so they could work together on choosing dates to avoid booking shoots the same day for clubs close to each other. I know times are changing and it seems to be more marathon shoots just to get targets in, but I think it has a lot to do with the low number of shooters at the clubs and they find it is just not worth it to hold a regular event. I myself enjoy the competition rather than shooting glorified practice.

ParticipantDarian kinda killed the 50 mile rule, not sure what Dave is going to do this year, along with Broadhead closing, also I’m not sure if Delavan is having any registered this year…

ParticipantI seem to recall two years ago(or was it this past year?) at the Annual Meeting, Bill Simonar stated his objective of getting a “fall classic” started. He mentioned hoping he could do it between the Fall Handicap and Stockdale’s. Having it right before Missouri is a great date, IMO. Since the clubs who do have dates already scheduled and have had those dates for years, it only makes sense that the WTA move to the open date, the following weekend. Keep it there as most local clubs keep the same dates each year. Once the word gets out, all local clubs will know “that date is taken”.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong in my recollection of what Bill said.
Tim

ParticipantGetting things right takes a few things and luck is only part of it. Since this forum started we are seeing the positive things that can be done like let our ideas be known to the Directors. Also we see that this idea of a different date for the Fall Classic will be addressed by the Board which shows us that they listen, they are willing to do something, and last but not least is that the forum works. Glad to have it.

ParticipantI agree Ken. I was receiving so many calls now I can see what’s going on here and we can try to work together. I’m sure it won’t always be thisceasyand some even easier. But case and point is working toward one common goal.

ParticipantThe change of dates to Sep. 16,17,18 would probably conflict with the non-registered Fall Shoot at Gateway (Land O Lakes) as mid-Sept is the time when that shoot is scheduled. WTA Fall Classic would probably lose some shooters to those dates. The week previous to Sep.9-11 conflicts with the Heartland Grand.
