ParticipantDan, you can make it happen. Go for it.

ParticipantHey Ken no one has talked to me about it. I was asked to run the line for the Spring, State, and Fall shoot. But I wouldn’t be there if our club has a shoot the same day as well as probably 25 others. So I hope we change to this weekend.
I was not there because my father passed away.
I think this is where the 50 mile rule might also be a biggy.
I know since I have been a director it has been brought up to me by 4 different clubs.
I think that would help us not have such little shoots it would bring more shooters if we weren’t having them close together. I think this forum will help you guys get your opinions expressed as I believe we are just supposed to be working for all off you.
Let’s all work together to grow this organization together.
Nice talking with all of you.February 9, 2016 at 10:40 pm #945Andy Hall
ParticipantAgree 16,17 and 18th of September is a very good date for fall classic as no clubs have a shoot that weekend. We lucked out last October with the weather, wouldn’t count on it again.

ParticipantThat date still looks Ok to me. Would you want a, hopefully, huge WTA three day shoot to be disengaged from it’s published date to accommodate a few smaller one day events? Change the minor clubs dates if that is a problem. Are these clubs within the theoretical arbitrary 50 mile limit? I don’t know but I’d be surprised it would make much of a difference in attendance.

ParticipantI beg to differ as I’m from one of the clubs. We normally have a large turn out. I know at least 20 people last fall that were there from our club probably more. Being a BOD member I wasn’t there due to a death in the family so this was the first seen this but I believe we are saying we are bigger and better if we just run over smaller clubs as you stated. These small clubs are still WTA members that we should have a common respect for. I brought up the 50 mile rule as has been mentioned so much for the same reason. I don’t think it’s rite that we just throw down a thrump card and over run them. We are part of the same team and should act like it. Let’s wait and see what happens it sounds as if some changes could be in work possibly

ParticipantIf I am not mistaken the next weekend the Missouri shoot starts.

ParticipantAlso one thing you may or may not know is who put the shoot on the calendar first. If the WTA puts a shoot on the records and someone else does later the WTA is not bumping heads with them they are bumping with the WTA. Also are you sure that these other shoots are Reg. shoots? Some of the shoots on the calendar are non reg. and therefore really shouldn’t matter to the WTA. I know Darien is but then again they are 125 miles apart. The WTA never said that they would not hold a shoot it there is another one somewhere else in the state. If that were the case from May until Oct the WTA wouldn’t be able to hold any shoots.

ParticipantMissouri Fall Handicap runs from Sept. 24- Oct.2,
I believe Langlade County and Sauk Prairie have held registered shoots on the weekend after Labor
Day for a number of years.

ParticipantDon The WTA did say it would not compete against other clubs. You have to remember that the WTA is the support for the local clubs and therefore we should not compete. The MI fall handicap starts the 24th of Sept to Oct. 2nd. For the WTA to establish a fall shoot we should select a date and keep it on that schedule. Also we could make it exclusive in the state as to no other club could have a shoot on those dates. All we have to do is tell our shoot coordinator.

ParticipantI think it goes back to the old saying. Since when is doing the rite thing not the rite thing to do. We want them to support us I realize we can’t be perfect but we can try to do our best to work with them. Just a thought.

ModeratorJust wanted to point out that the middle of September is when the traditional Gateway Fall Shoot is held in Land O Lakes. Last year, quite a few of the shooters that attended the WTA Fall Classic also were at this shoot.
February 10, 2016 at 11:10 am #965Ken Cerney
ParticipantJohn the Gateway shoot is not on the calendar or the ATA web site I guess we should check with the WTA shoot coordinator to see. But on another note if we list now and make it exclusive there won’t be a problem

ParticipantNew update. I checked with Amy our shoot coordinator and she had no other shoots on the Sept. 16-17-18. We also talked about the May shoot for the WTA and the July 4th week-end shoot. Theese date have other shoots listed with no other open dates in those months. So here is were I am going with this. I know we should not compete but the May and July are listed as a Registered shoot. Nothing special just a multi day shoot. While the Sept shoot is being billed as “The Fall Classic”. This is something special and should be protected and kept on the same time frame each year like the State Shoot. This way we can build it to some major shoot for the country in the fall of the year something like the big fall handicap in Missouri.

ParticipantSounds great. Your so good Ken. I agree if we want to turn this into a huge shoot.

ParticipantYou are correct John that is generally when Gateway has their shoot. Although it is not a ATA/WTA shoot but a lot of shooters that would shoot the Homegrounds shoot also shoot Gateway, witch in turn means less shooter at both places. (what we are trying to avoid) As you all can see scheduling shoots is not as easy as just picking a date out of a hat!
